Bowhunting in Whinneshiek County

Hello fellow hunters. I love the outdoors and deer hunting with my family; however, I have not been able to hunt the last two years because I am attending Luther College in Decorah, IA. I miss the thrill of hunting so I am planning on bow hunting this fall in Decorah. I do have many questions though and any suggestions are greatly helpful. My biggest question is would it be worth my time and effort to go door to door and ask for permission to hunt on private land or go straight to public land? Are there benefits to one over the other? I have not needed to ask for permission nor have I hunted on public land before. Personally, I would like to hunt on private land but I am open to both. All thoughts are welcome!!!

Not sure where that is however the public hunting around here is pretty good. However, you will have to drag a deer a long ways if you want to shoot a good one!!
It is always worth your while to ask for permission and sometimes having some private ground to fall back on when the public ground gets invaded by hunters is a really good thing also.
I have shot a couple P and Y deer off of public ground so they are there just have to put some time in scouting.
Good luck!!

You can try private but it may be tough without connections. I'm betting a few of the few cute coeds may have family in the area, otherwise get a Sportsman's Atlas and this will list all of your public options. Being a Luther Student if you can get me pictures of your yearly naked coed soccer game I may let you hunt with me, how in the world do you get away with this and how many kids are involved? I know this is way off subject but I could not believe until I heard it from very reliable sources, so I had to ask.
