Getting the most from your time

I work a schedule that few people would accept. I routinely start at or before 6:00am and I very seldom get home before 6:00pm. Short days are only 12 hours and I don't eat lunch most days. I push to get the most from life and each hour at work. I use this same philosophy in my outdoor activities as well. I constantly look for a flooded ditch to shoot carp, a back water area I haven't seen before that might produce a few ducks this fall, a good trail that deserves walking to find a pinch point. I "power scout" everytime out. This style is aggressive and forward, but when you have only a few minutes at a time to fish, shoot or scout, it really helps!
Deer scouting is often done by talking to people as opposed to actually being in the woods, I listen to people and when I find a deer that is talked about a couple of different times I check it out personally. Routine locations, approximate times of sightings, frequency of sightings etc can all be learned before the deer has ever been seen by me.
I am often on the road traveling across the Midwest. I see lots of wildlife from the roads and I make mental notes of where those sightings occur. If I find a property that almost always has a turkey or a deer visible, I find out who owns it and I try to get permission. I never pass by and assume they wont let me on, I can handle getting a no answer. If you don't ask, you wont ever have a chance. I keep myself mobile and I don't lock myself to just a sinlge property or two.
Arial maps are a must before ever entering a timber and an average property is often passed on in the pursuit of a great property, but I never close a door or forget a property owner who has given me permission. Keep good relations with landowners as properties are often cyclical and you never know when one of your properties will be the home range of a monster.
Power scouting is merely the use of all your knowledge and rescources to locate what you are after in as short of a period of time as possible. Use more than your feet and you will find yourself getting the most of the few free moments you have!
