Lots of deer movement

I hunted in a NE wind rural stand on Friday night. I saw a pile of does, atleast 8, and a 120"ish 8 pnt and the neat little one antlered buck I have written about. I never saw a shooter buck but the trail camera had a bunch of pics of a nice 6X6 with a couple of non typ points... encouraging, but not big enough for me.
This morning the fog hung thick as the sun tried to rise. I had a big doe make the mistake of stopping at 30 yards and she only made it another 50 yards... amazing what a heart shot with a Rage 2 blade broad head will do. I checked the big doe in at the firestation, my 15th antlerless deer in the city so far, and took my kids fishing in our pond. We caught a few small bass on wacky worms and I picked up Jody on my way to SE Iowa. Our first order of business was to move 2 stands to better locations. The first stand was the one he saw the monster buck from last week and the other was not easy enough to get to and required too specific of a wind, so I pulled it and reset it in a locust tree by a pond, an oak ridge and the corner of a corn field. This spot has scrapes, rubs, and is loaded with big tracks, just the kind of place to ambush a big mature buck. Once the stands were set we went back to the truck and fished in the farm pond by where I park and we managed about 20 small bass up to 2 lbs or so. Jody headed to the bean field stand and I headed for the corn field stand.
I saw a skunk, a raccoon, 4 tom turkeys and a 110"ish 5X4 with a tiny sticker on the left G2. He hung around for almost an hour always less than 50 yards, so he was mine if I wanted him.
Jody had a pile of does come by and he shot a huge doe quartering away and in less than 40 yards the rage did it's job. It was awesome, that is the first archery deer Jody has taken while we were hunting together. He has taken several rifle, shotgun and muzzleloader deer, but this monster doe broke the ice for his new Mathew's. I am really proud of him, he has spent tons of time on shooting and he is really shooting well. Tonight was icing on the cake.
All in all the 3 hunts so far this weekend have been really good, 2 deer down and there have been lots of deer movement, the key ingredient to a fun deer hunt!
