Let the rumors begin!!!

I am amazed every year about the big deer that people shoot, and how many rumors quickly follow the deer. The bigger the deer, the more rumors that are involved, and the more condeming they seem to be.
The big deer shot in Linn Co by Rick and I this year was very simple, I blogged the entire story and Rick became a member of IowaDeer.com and agreed with the story. Wouldn't you know it, people started the rumor around here that my story was fake, the deer was found later and the other guy and I were fighting etc... Thanks Adam for killing that rumor! There is now rumor of a big deer killed in central Iowa that was very popular with the locals there, and a small group of guys harvested it during shotgun 1 season. The rumors started flying and fingers were instantly pointed, trespassing the claim... we will see where that 260" deer ends up, but it sounds clean to me.
What have we come to as sportsmen, that would lead people to assume that we did things wrong. Why do we even get accused of this type of activity? What do we have to do as a group to give the other guy a little slack and assume it was legit from the begining. I for one want to be happy for everyone that harvests a deer, as they are all trophies, and I want everyone else to work on that as well. I think Big Buck Envy has created a feeling in all of us that we could get a big one too if we cheated like the other guy... Why not get to the point that we can each harvest bucks of our dreams with out cheating, so we don't assume others cheat too. I would love to get feed back on this subject, it seems to be getting worse as the value of antlers seems to grow, and the perception of the values of anlters grows even faster...
