Button Buck Trail

I know it sounds like a hunting version of a Louis LaMour book, but I think that is the name of the trail I was sitting on tonight. I raced to the driveway and parked the truck, I sprayed down with HS Scent Away and put on my new set of Robinson Labs Pro Tec Fleece. I am not really a fan of the pull over design, I would have preferred a zipper front. I got dressed, sprayed down from head to toe again and sprayed my release, rangefinder and bow. I quickly crossed the yard and was about to pass my first stand when I noticed a small buck and 2 antlerless deer already feeding a couple of hundred yards to my South. I was turning to head across the creek to my food plot stand when I saw a pile of deer "boil" out of the N timber. They came in 3 groups, about 14 antlerless and 3 bucks. I was amazed at the new buck, a 150+ beautiful 8 pnt that has long beams, really good mass and great tine length. He has about 20" inside spread and the most impressive feature is that his long G3s splay wide up and out. He must be pushing 27" wide at the widest outside point. The train of deer passed me going S and they crossed to my side of the creek. I am not sure what spooked them, possibly a shed hunter or a jogger, or just someone walking that chunk of timber.
I decided to jump into the stand that was only 10 yards away and wait, that group of deer would surely head back to the N before dark. It wasn't long before the deer started my way and as I looked each one over, I was baffled. The first 5 deer to pass were all button bucks. then a small buck, another button and finally the first doe. I drew and shot here quartering away at 30 yards, the 3 blade rage hitting it's mark and doing it's job in about 100 yards. The small bucks continued to file by and I sat motionless watching a line of does as they worked by my E stand, about 70 yards away. Jody did suggest I sit in that stand, perhaps I will be there Thursday night, but tonight it was a seat along the button buck trail!
